Sugata Hazra is Joint Faculty Coordinator, Project E-QUAL, Jadavpur University and member, Joint Working Group in Natural Resources and Sustainable Technologies. He is Professor and Director, School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University. His research has focused on Oceanic Resources and Coastal Management, extending to Climate Change and Populous Deltas, Tsunamis and Coastal Disaster Management, Marine Fishing Zone prediction and validation, Carbon Flux Estimation, and Bio-Optical Studies for OCEAN SAT II data validation in the northern Bay of Bengal. He is the Deputy Leader of the multi-country ESPA Delta and DECCMA project on Deltas under Climate Change. He was a member of the XVIth Indian Antarctic Expedition. He has done pioneering work related to ecological vulnerability and impact of climate change in the Sundarban delta, West Bengal. He has worked as Principal Investigator of various scientific projects of Indian Government and Non-Governmental Organizations like WWF, IUCN etc. He established the full scale Remote Sensing and GIS Laboratory at the School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University in 2003. He is a Member of the National Task Force for Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem (BOBLME), the West Bengal State Coastal Zone Management Authority, State Fluoride Task Force, and the Drafting Committee of the State Climate Action Plan. He has many publications in national and international journals and monographs to his credit.
