Samantak Das is Faculty Member, Project E-QUAL, Jadavpur University and member, Joint Working Group in Human Ecology. He is Associate Professor, Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University and Joint Coordinator of the Rabindranath Studies Centre. He received his BA and MA degrees in English from Jadavpur University, followed by a doctoral degree in Arts, on the reception and influence of Charles Darwin in late nineteenth-century English writings. He taught at the Department of English and Other Modern European Languages at Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan for more than a decade prior to joining Jadavpur University. Das has written and lectured extensively on 19th-century literature, translation, the relationship between the biological sciences and literature, environment, ecology and primary education. Apart from his academic work, he has for long been involved in voluntary work in rural West Bengal, primarily in the areas of education and training for self-employment.
