Somak Mukherjee is Project Assistant, Project E-QUAL. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from Jadavpur University in 2011 and 2013, respectively. He is currently pursuing his PhD in English at Jadavpur University on the representation of underground transit space in textual and visual culture. He was NAAC Project Fellow, Jadavpur University, between 2013 and 2014. He has presented seminar papers in national and international conferences at Jadavpur University (CAS Department of English: International Dickens Conference, 2012); Christ University, Bangalore; St Stephen’s College, New Delhi; JUSAS (Jadavpur University Society for American Studies), CSRL (Center For Studies in Romantic Literature) Kolkata, and in the first International UGC-UKIERI ETIC (Envisioning the Indian City) Workshop held at Jadavpur University, in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, in January 2014. His areas of interest lie in the fields of urban studies, Modernist poetry and theatre. He is an active theatre practitioner and has performed extensively in Calcutta and Delhi for almost 15 years, representing his school, university and prestigious theatre groups like Nandikar and The Red Curtain. He is a member of the NGO FERRY (Foundation for the Economic Rehabilitation of Rural Youth) and has done volunteer work in rural Bengal.
