Samuel Berthet is Faculty Member, Project E-QUAL, Shiv Nadar University and member of the Joint Working Group in Human Ecology. He teaches Ecology, Maritime History and Modernity in Shiv Nadar University. He has previously taught at Visva-Bharati and Jawaharlal Nehru University. His research focused on various areas including governance in the state of Chhattisgarh (governance, political representation, tribal identify, self-help groups), maritime history and ship building in South Asia and history of ideas. He is a historian advocating an anthropologist approach to complete the research on written archives, both on the reading of written archives and on engaging with oral and visual sources. His current work on Ecology is also the result of a very early interaction with environmental concerned practitioners in various fields such as farmers, agronomists, architects, urban planners and artists among others. Samuel Berthet has co-edited a dictionary on contemporary India and has published numerous articles and books.
